In That City By The Sea :-)

I love this time of year by the sea! I love living by the ocean.
There are bridges all over the place around here. The hubby & I went out for a drive tonight since it was nice out and we drove across several of the bridges that span the Chesapeake Bay or it's watershed. We even stopped to walk out on one of the fishing piers. It was breathtaking. The night blackened ocean spanning out as far as you can see with container ships and yachts flashing their lights out on the horizon signaling to the world that they exist in that exact spot in this moment in time. The reflections of stars freckling the surface shimming and dancing to a song played by the ocean currents and wind. The shoreline itself crowded spots of light in every color imaginable reflected back in a VanGogh like image blurred at the edges yet still distinct & recognizable. The lights of the shore stretching out through the dark waters giving the illusion of the shoreline being suspended above the bay on columns of light that dive into the murky depths until they fade into the blackness. The gulls who stayed behind through the wretchedly cold winter are being once again joined by returning turns, egrets, and cranes who dive gracefully at the inky surface. The world is coming back from it's long winter sleep. The dead brown foliage and dead icy looking slate gray waters returning to their warmer greens, blues, and teals. The briny wind whips by long enough to let a gull hover in the air gracefully. The night was beautiful and reminded me that the icy cold winter had all been worth it because I was here now to see this.
I believe that if you are quiet enough and still enough that nature will speak to you, but you have to listen closely. The eternal waters of the Chesapeake whispered quietly to me tonight. It was a long and heartbreaking Fall, followed by a bitter Winter. But now is the time to wake back up. It's time to start really living again. The life cycle is starting over like it does every Spring. The world goes on like it always has since before we were here & as it will when we are all gone. We are just a blip, and insignificant part of the process, if you blink you might miss our entire existence. And I'm tired of racing to the end which is already to near. Slow down, take a breath, enjoy what you have. Honor those who have gone before you and cherish those who will be here when you are gone. It's okay if you've been in a funk, but that time is past now. It will come again, that's part of the cycle, but now, right now is the time to really wake-up and live.
